October 8, 2015, Hamburg / Mettmann – It has always been a dream of Martin Kaymer to make it to the Olympics. Good for him that Golf will return to the Olympics in Rio 2016 for the first time since 1904. This is one of the reasons why the 30-year old Martin Kaymer committed to a partnership with “Deutsche Sporthilfe” in June 2015. The aim of the cooperation is to generate additional funds for the Olympic sport and also to strengthen the notion of performance for the new Olympic sport golf in Germany.
„Fairway to Rio“, a fundraising tournament by “Deutsche Sporthilfe” and “Martin Kaymer Helianthus Foundation”, was held on 7th October 2015 to generate further support for both foundations. Olympic champions, medalists and sport stars like Jonas Reckermann, Steffi Nerius, Moritz Fürste, Dieter Thoma and Tobias Angerer, as well as DGV- Junior golfers and supporters of both foundations accepted the invitation and took part at “Fairway to Rio”.
„I had a great day and a lot of fun. The Olympics have always been a dream of mine and I’m really looking forward to next year in Rio. I would like to thank all athletes, supporters and volunteers and I hope our guests enjoyed the day as much as I did. I look forward to further projects and events that offer sustainable help“, said Martin Kaymer. „I was thrilled about the Olympics before, but now I’m looking even more forward to Rio!“
